Memory.
I always think the strongest memories are those that are emotionally charged.
In a recent discussion with some friends, we spoke about an event that occurred about 5 years ago. It wasnt something that i personally wasnt very emotional about. But someone close was very affected by this incident, thus the strong memory. As they were talking about how its been 5 years, and people now hardly remember. When the accident occurred, they had put in place some measures to prevent it from occurring again. But now, no one remembers again.
Why? Is it because it wasnt something they were really upset about? It was a human life, and cognitively speaking, im sure most people mentally made a note that it was a terrible, and avoidable accident and that they should try to ensure such things dont occur again. But these cognitive notes, really dont stick long. Why do these reminders only serve such short periods of time? It takes a loss of a human life to make a short mental note that doesnt last more than a few years?
