Ring Shopping

And so we went ring shopping today. But obviously, i was more interested in the whole idea behind DIAMONDS.
And so i asked the salesman, who is chinese mixed indian...
Liz: So, are diamonds really girls best friend???
Guy: Yes. Definitely.
Liz: Why so???
Guy: Mdm, believe me. I've seen the girls... *nods his head vigourously*
Liz: hmmmm.....
Guy: Well, as u can see, i'm not very aggressive in my sales. Coz i really understand that diamonds are women's best friend, but men's greatest enemy.
I burst out into hysterical laughters. But having said that, i still dont understand the rational behind diamonds. Social construct?? Socialization?? Comparison??? Insecurity?? Status symbol?? Competitiveness???
I remember having this conversation with Junghee once. She thinks, its all about answering the question, "So how big is ur engagement ring??"
I shall now be very brave and attack all those diamond lovers out there. Please think and think again, wat the big deal is about. If you really understand diamonds and can tell the bloody difference between how many facets and how many facets, or whether its H color or E color, then by all means. Go ahead. But, if your poor husband to be has to scrimp and save and eat white rice with soya sauce for 3 months jus to be able to buy you a solitare and also a set of wedding bands.... PLEASE for goodness sakes, spend the money on somehting more sensible and not a piece of carbon.
And so, ring shopping went... not so well becoz i was overly critical about EVERYTHING. I mean, i jus really dont understand the whole concept of diamond. Sorry. =( We'll try again next round okay. heehee.
